After falling 2-0 down it looked like Rovers wouldn't be moving up to second by the end of the night but four goals by Andy Cook got them victory, writes Tom Feaheny.
"We speak about being composed and concentrating on what we do, to be 2-0 down we kept going and doing what we knew worked well," Mellon told the club's YouTube account.
“We were delighted to get that and then we had a chat at half time, and every credit to the boys, they showed great composure and stuck to what we do."
Mellon knows the importance of Cook who helped change the game in their favour.
“I think in the second half, that is as good a striking performance as I’ve seen in a long time.
“It had everything in it, he led the line incredibly well, every time he touched the ball the next touch was a Tranmere player.
Tranmere know that dropping points on Saturday with Macclesfield winning in the early kick-off will give them the title but Mellon says they can't think about that.
"Regardless of the situation, we have to aim to win every game, no matter what is at stake elsewhere we know the expectation level here is the same.
"We face a very good side in Aldershot Town, they are a team up their for a reason, we have to focus on ourselves and do what we know works."
