A 2-0 win at Chester, meant a lot for Rovers who were able to make it back to back wins, writes Tom Feaheny.
"I'm pleased with the result, to get the clean sheet, the local derby, in all it was a good afternoon for us," Mellon told the club's website.
"At this time of the year, it is all about results, clean sheets, we have set a standard and look to maintain that.
"The fans here for us made it special as well.
"With the clean sheet, the goals and the away support, it was a good result in a derby for us."
Mellon says the experience within the Rovers squad is what could be the difference in their battle for promotion.
"It is the business end of the season it all becomes very exciting, we are enjoying being in the build up of it all.
"The experience the players have, we have been there and done that and know that the focus is just on ourselves."
