Rovers overcame the challenge of Leyton Orient live on BT Sport last night. Watch Match Highlights Here.
A goal down when Matt Harrold put the Londoners ahead, Tranmere showed character as goals from Andy Cook and James Norwood plundered the points.
Mellon got what he asked for - a big result having dug in down at Bromley on Saturday which brought life to their season.
He praised their new found potency in front of goal and told the National League's Oli Osborn that is was a justified 2-1 victory in the rain at Prenton Park.
"I thought we deserved the win, there's little doubt about that," said the manager.
"It was really tough conditions out there so fair play to the players who tried to go out there and play football.
"The fact that both our strikers have found the target is very pleasing. All forwards thrive on finding the back of the net so that could be massive for us going forward.
"We knows goals have been the part of our game that we have missed so far this season, we knew we needed to be more clinical and we have been tonight.
"It's a big three points for us against a really good side who are very well managed."
And now Mellon wants a hat-trick of victories which will push the club further towards their target.
"Now we have another big local game against Chester looking for a third win in a row," he added. "It's huge and hopefully we can carry on building."
