A 3-0 win against Ebbsfleet United leaves Rovers just two points off top spot, writes Tom Feaheny.
A James Norwood double, that saw him reach 50 goals for the club helped ensure that the points went to Rovers with Andy Cook opening the scoring beforehand.
They maintained their impressive run with their home form being key as they are now ten unbeaten at Prenton Park.
Tranmere are the form side at home since the start of 2018 and this has seen them move to 4th in the table, though both Aldershot and Macclesfield Town do have a game in hand on them.
The last defeat for Rovers at home in the Vanarama National League was all the way back in September, with the side hitting form at the perfect time.
"I'm pleased to get the result and keep this fine home record going, it was a good days work," Mellon said during a press conference.
"All over the pitch it was a solid performance, my strikers worked so hard to get the goals but also make it difficult for the defences as well."
With the strikers getting the goals and a sixth clean sheet during these ten games unbeaten, Mellon said he didn't want to just pick a single player for the best contribution during this victory.
"I can't pick out just one player it was a team performance. We have a great group who are enjoying playing."
There was also the welcome return to action for Ben Tollitt who has returned from injury in time for the vital run-in.
Next weekend Rovers are back on their travels as they face Leyton Orient.
