McNulty Is Hoping To Make Up For Lost Time

Tranmere Rovers’ bitter Wembley experience can play a vital role in today’s Promotional Final according to one of the players who suffered more than most a year ago.

Passionate Steve McNulty is looking to win his third promotion into the Football League, and he knows he could already have done it.

But Tranmere fell short twelve months ago - and the central defender is looking to make up for lost time.

McNulty is the Rovers’ special player feature in the official matchday programme this weekend.

He explains in details just what losing to Forest Green Rovers felt like and how having already been to Wembley can help them over the line this weekend.

“The hope is that we’ve learned from the bitter experience,” the 34-year-old said in his interview. “We have last year under our belts where as the side we’re playing don’t.

“I remember getting to the stadium and thinking ‘wow’. I had never played at Wembley before, it’s only natural that you are going to be taken aback by the place - it’s football’s most famous stadium and everything about the day you want to remember.

“This year we won’t have that, like Forest Green Rovers didn’t in their second visit. Maybe having been before the season before can help relax you. The end goal is still the same but we’ve been there, we know what to expect. Sometimes it’s the little things.

“Boreham Wood haven’t played here so we’ll have to see if that can work in our favour.”
