McMahon: Opening Three Games Something To Build On

The unbeaten side have drawn twice and won once after their latest match ended 3-3 with AFC Fylde.

Ebbsfleet United boss Daryl McMahon believes there is still work to be done for his side but is pleased with what they have done so far, writes Tom Feaheny.

They secured a point after scoring in the 89th minute to keep their unbeaten run going.

He spoke BBC Radio Kent’s Charles Webster and said.

"I don’t think we performed anywhere near our levels. I thought Fylde were excellent, especially in the first half.

He added: “It’s a wake-up call in the sense of the defensive organisation that we’ve got to get better at. But we’ve shown we can score goals and compete and we’re a good side as well. We’ll evolve this season.

While McMahon could take positives out of The draw, he knew how tough missing captain Dave Winfield will be as he injured a medial ligament playing against Maidstone on Tuesday.

“The saving grace of the game is we showed terrific character, terrific spirit,” he said. “We know we can score goals but defensively today, losing your captain and your organiser and leader this week hasn’t helped. Every time he doesn’t play we concede two goals but it’s something we’ve got to rectify quickly.

Fleet’s fifth point of the campaign after three games is a building block for the club according to the manager.

"There’s loads to work on, it’s August. I think people get carried away thinking that we’ve had a point and a win, that we’re just going to win every game. It’s stupid, we’re in a tough division with lots of good sides and we’re going to try and compete which we are at the minute.”
