McLean Boost For Fleet

By Elliott York

Ebbsfleet United manager Daryl McMahon has confirmed another striker for 2017/18 after Aaron McLean signed a new contract.

The 34-year-old, who has graced the likes of Hull City, Bradford City and Peterborough United, will embark on his third season at Stonebridge Road after joining from Barnet in January 2016.

A driving force behind the scenes last season following his ACL injury, McLean’s determination to return to fitness was rewarded when he helped steer Fleet’s injury-stricken strike force over the line in the play-offs.

Against the odds he featured in thirteen games in total during the 2016/17 campaign, scoring 4 times to take his Fleet career record to 9 goals in twenty-eight matches.

Following the promotion final, McLean had said: “I came to this club to get promotion and through my whole career, the thing that’s always driven me on and helped get the best out of me is I’ve been at clubs that want to go and achieve things, at whatever level.”

And his manager knows the striker is worth his weight both on and off the pitch, with McLean happy to provide a level head for younger players. “I enjoy that responsibility,” McLean said, “and when I see the young lads doing well and the team doing well, whether I’m on the pitch or not I get exactly the same satisfaction from that”.
