The 1-0 defeat at home to Macclesfield Town on Saturday left the supporters and the Moors manager frustrated.
It left the club third from bottom in the National League table but McDonald says the team will get better as the season progresses.
"It's disappointing," he said after the loss. "I have just told the players in there that there is only so much we, as a coaching team, can tell them.
"They have to go out there and do it themselves and sometimes they didn't do that.
"We are renowned now for having good second halfs, but I have asked them why we can't have that tempo at the start of the first half as well?"
McDonald added: "The lads are tired, I can see that out there. The last 15 minutes that was clear to see. There has been a lot of football played so far..
"We will get better, I know that. We will improve as the season progresses, I'm sure of that.
"Now we need to focus on Tuesday and get back out there. But we know that we need to be more clinical in front of goal and take our chances when they arrive.
"It will be difficult at Woking but we need to put this result behind us."
