The victory saw The Moors climb up the table by a place to 22nd in the Vanarama National League table, writes Tom Feaheny.
Two goals from Dapo Afolayan proved to be the difference and McDonald told Oliver Osborn after the victory.
"It was our most complete performance of the season, we dominated the game, even when we went down to ten men we looked comfortable with and without the ball.
"It is the first time since we took over that we won a mid-week game, sometimes we lack energy, but we were strong we attacked and defended in numbers."
He added: "I've took stick the lads have took stick but we have shown heart and this game really worked, the fans got behind us gave us a lift and we want to look to move on, we've played Torquay and Chester and beat them both."
McDonald picked out the impressive Afolayan for praise.
"He is a very talented footballer, at 19 he's played down the middle and held everything up, he's run the channels, he brought others into play."
The manager spoke about Liam Daly who made his second home debut during the win and the impact he had on the defence.
"He is an old school centre half, he wants to head it, in midlands football there is not a defender that does what he does, he was part of a back five if you include the keeper and they all did well, our first clean sheet of the season."
