It's early days in the National League yet but the Moors are five points adrift from safety having picked up just seven from 11 games.
And things aren't set to get much easier in the coming weeks as high-flying Dagenham and Redbridge visit tomorrow and then a trip down to Dover Athletic next week beckons.
Resilient Ebbsfleet and improving Hartlepool are then up next for McDonald's side, who this week has urged the Solihull fans to back his team.
"We had a good session on Tuesday and Thursday nights, the first time we have had the luxury of two training nights in the same week for some time," he said.
"The lads have picked themselves from the disappointment of giving away a point at Bromley. We are fortunate to have some good loan signings and I have been pleased with the impact that have made as they have hit the ground running.
"On the downside, it is a little harder to keep the team camaraderie at the same level as it would be with a settled squad but that is a luxury we do not have given the injuries to seven of our key players.
McDonald continued: "Defensively we are looking better but you get nothing from losing by the odd goal on a regular basis. We need to change that into points and we must do better with the half chances when they arrive.
"We had a bad run of results towards the end of last season but I'm confident we will turn this season around in the same manner.
"I have said before that the fans can be our twelfth man and their support has never been needed more than it will be over the next few weeks. The players know what is required of them but when the fans are quiet they know it and when they're shouting their heads off they respond. It can make the difference."
