McDermott Left Disappointed & Frustrated After Boston Defeat

The Reds battled throughout and equalised through Craig Westcarr after 21 minutes but further goals from the hosts followed as Alfreton failed to build on last weekend's win over Blyth Spartans.

McDermott spoke to the club`s press officer Amar Sharma, saying: "I was very disappointed and frustrated and I don't think we even got off the bus. I don`t know what was up with them and we just seemed to match them and play them with their game, they were good at what they do and we tried to do that, it didn't work for us.

"They out bullied us, won everything and we were just launching it. We set our teams out to go and try and play and if certain areas of the park aren't doing it and certain areas don't want to play then we were always going to lose. It's about the players wanting to come and play."

McDermott was frustrated with the goals the Reds conceded on Tuesday as Saturday's clean sheet over Blyth was succumbed to three goals at Boston: "The goals we conceded were schoolboy and it's about people wanting to score goals and we are more mobile than we showed; especially with the goals that have gone in. We should have dealt with it."

Brody Robertson had two golden chances in the second half to equalise and then pull a goal back at 3-1 and John recognised those crucial moments: "Yeah Brody had some big chances, the first; the header which he put wide and he knows he has to score that. Then he had another one where he's through and he knows he should have done better there as well. But overall i'm disappointed with how we haven't played and all we did was hoof ball and that gets you nothing.

"I can't stomach that and I feel sorry for the fans that came all that way and expected us to pass it around and move people around, work the pockets of space and we did it once in the second half which looked good. But most of the time we were looking for things first time and I've told them if we`re going to do that I can't watch it.

"I know it`s only the second game and there is no reason to panic, but I saw enough to worry me and I don`t want to be a team that just plays at home and does nothing away and just fold and we didn't give them a game and we deserved exactly what we got, which was nothing.

"We can't play hoof ball, we haven't got the players for it and we were beaten by a team that does their thing good. They've worked hard and they've done the business. We need to play our style and we need to do it away from home as well as on our own patch."

McDermott was also adamant of a reaction and demanded a response as the Reds head to Darlington on Saturday: "We head to Darlington and we better turn up because if we turn up like that because they'll give us a spanking. They are a great side, strong and move the ball well. We've got to be 100% better then Tuesday if we are going to do anything this year and we need to respond.

"I won`t tolerate that kind of performance. I've been backed by the Chairman and the fans have been great with us and they've had to suffer over the years by watching that kind of performance on Tuesday and I promise them they won't be watching that.

"If we are going to get beat I want us to get beat playing my way, that was not how I play on Tuesday by booming it and I apologise for the performance".
