Massey: Tranmere Are The Kind Of Club You Want To Play

The central defender has already lead the team out at home to Wrexham, Hartlepool and Leyton Orient in the first five weeks of the season.

So Tranmere Rovers this evening holds no fears for the Magpies, who the captain says are coping well with the step up from the Vanarama National League South.

Massey says he has already seen enough to suggest they can avoid a struggle and ahead of tonight's match Alan Devonshire's team are keen to add three points to their tally.

He said: "We're enjoying it. We knew we had quality in our side going into the new season. It is a step up obviously, but I don't think we have looked out of place.

"We have taken to the new challenge well. We were always going to have ups and downs but it's been a pleasing start.

"I think we can stay up. If we stick to our principles I don't see why we won't be alright."

Tonight it's Tranmere and the skipper says for part time players nothing beats big games.

"These are the sides you want to be playing against - Tranmere are a massive club for this level and everyone knows that," added the former Braintree Town and Wealdstone player.

"We've had a fair number of the big clubs down here already, it's been a tough start.

"It didn't quite go our way against Leyton Orient or against Wrexham but we did manage to beat Hartlepool in the live BT game so we know we can do it.

"Tranmere have been a bit inconsistent this season so of course there is a chance. There's no lack of belief in our squad."
