Marsh Comes Back To Haunt Former Club

By Steve Whitney

Friday night football came to Moss Lane and it seemed to suit a Macclesfield Town side who had made an uncertain start to the Vanarama National League season.

The Silkmen came into the game against a Dover Athletic side who had won three of their opening five matches, with just one three-point haul to their name along with a couple of draws.

But a good performance from John Askey`s side – especially in the second half – saw them move up to eleventh in the table after a 1-0 win.

The home side started well and Whites` keeper Mitch Walker did well to prevent Danny Whitaker from giving them an early 2nd minute lead.

However, they faded as the half progressed and it was Chris Kinnear`s side who looked the most likely to break the deadlock.

Silkmen `keeper Shwan Jalal saved well from Kane Richards and Josh Passley as the half somehow finished goalless.

But the crowd didn`t have long to wait for the opening goal after the break, as just 4 minutes in, pin-point cross from Elliot Durrell found former Dover striker Tyrone Marsh, who headed in at the far post.

Macc forced a succession of corners without managing to add to their tally and sub Mitch Hancox caused problems when he came on.

Gime Toure forced a decent save out of Walker and Scott Burgess skimmed the bar from 25 yards as the Silkmen looked to make the points safe.

Tobi Sho-Silva caused a late scare at the other end when he brought a good save out of Jalal, but in the end, on their second half performance alone, Macclesfield just about deserved the three points.
