Mark Moves On As Terras Start Search For New Manager

Weymouth manager Mark Molesley has accepted the challenge of turning Southend United’s fortunes around.

He is the new boss at Roots Hall after taking the Terras to back-to-back promotions.

He joins the League Two club weeks after guiding Weymouth back to the National League, a year on from their Southern League success.

Arriving in April 2017, Molesley totally transformed the club after a spell in caretaker charge.

He says it wasn’t an easy decision to say goodbye as the Dorset club begin the search for his replacement.

Molesley, also a coach at AFC Bournemouth, told Southend’s website he knows he has a big job ahead of him after stepping up.

"It’s a great day for us but it’s also a little bittersweet because I’m leaving two fantastic clubs as well, in Bournemouth and Weymouth,” said the former Aldershot man.

“But we’re really excited by this challenge at this great football club so I’m proud to be standing here and excited by the challenge.

"After speaking with the Chairman I can see he shares the same vision and work ethic to take this club onwards and upwards.

“Sometimes that takes time but in football you’ve got to have a short-term impact for a long-term gain.”

Weymouth released a statement after the news was announced.

It read: “Mark is leaving us, we cannot pretend to not be disappointed by the news, but as he has always said himself, there is no time to dwell and as a club we must focus on what comes next and embark on our new challenge back in the Vanarama National League.

“We would like to thank Mark for his efforts as manager of our club.

“The board of directors will look to continue the excellent work in preparation of this exciting new season in the Vanarama National League.

“Plans for the new season are already well underway and we have already started to receive applicants for the managerial role.”
