Marcus Is Ready To Carv Up Defences Says New Boss Liam

Liam Watson believes new Southport signing Marcus Carver is only just hitting his peak.

The 26-year-old has left Chorley after scoring nearly 50 goals in his four seasons at Victory Park.

Scoring goals was an issue last term in the National League North for Port, with their 40 less than any other side in the top half.

Watson told the club’s website that he hopes that Carver could be the answer.

He said: “Being able to bring Marcus in as our first summer signing is really exciting for the club.

“He’s a striker with a record and pedigree which speaks for itself at this level and he has played a huge part in Chorley’s success over the last few years when they were in our division.

“At 26, he’s about to come into his own and is exactly the right age to fit into the squad. He is a striker with many different elements to his game and he has shown he can score different types of goals.”

Chorley will also lose midfielder Josh O’Keefe, who has announced he is to retire from playing.

The 31-year-old has decided to step back from playing in order to concentrate on his career in physiotherapy.

O’Keefe said on Twitter: “After years of telling the lads that I’m retiring, it’s finally time to call it a day in order to focus on my physio career within football.

“I’ve loved my time at Chorley and met some of the best people. Thank you to all the players, fans and staff. By far the funniest changing room I’ve ever been a part of and I will miss you all.”
