Maidstone Manager Saunders Hails His Players' Character

Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders paid tribute to his players’ character after they came from behind to win for the second time in two games.

National League success over Sutton United today, the league leaders, made it six points from two games.

The Stones beat Wrexham after going a goal down a week ago and Saunders spoke about the togetherness of his squad.

“We shown what we’re all about in the last week,” he said. “Two times we have come from behind to win and that shows there’s something about us.

“It was a classic game of two halves. First half, we gave them a bit too much respect but after we sat down at half time I simple said ‘get on the ball….let’s make something happen’ and they took that on board.

“To score three really good goals at Sutton, where they are so difficult to please, shows we’re progressing. I was also really pleased with the point against Aldershot too.

“It wasn’t an easy start,” he said. “We took a while to get going but in these last few games it started to show we have something happening.

“I’m pleased because I’ve not been able to play all my first 11 yet because of injury. Hopefully I can soon.

“We move on now and we can’t rest on these three good results. We have got to keep working hard.”
