The Stones had conceded 12 goals in their previous three matches heading into the game at York Road.
The two mid-table clubs played out a goalless draw and whilst admitting that his team can perform better, Saunders was far from disappointed.
“My main thing was getting a clean sheet and not losing the game after the run we’ve been on, so that side of it pleased me,” Saunders told Kent Online.
“We’ve conceded 12 in the last three games and it becomes a mental thing. It was really important we didn’t concede and we’ve done that, and that gets us back on track.
“Can we play better? Yes, we can play better, but after the recent results the big thing for me today was we didn’t lose the game.
“It was a big ask for us coming here but we stood up to what they had. We’ll take the point and we’ll move on.”
The Stones, just four points adrift of the National League play-off places, travel to Torquay United in the FA Trophy first round on Saturday before welcoming Leyton Orient to the Gallagher Stadium two days before Christmas.
