Maidenhead United's striker was one of the country's top scorers last season as his team won the Vanarama National League South.
Everyone wanted to know if he could take his finishing talents to the next level and two great goals against Hartelpool went some way to answering that.
Tarpey has always felt he would carry on scoring and was delighted with his double.
"There was a lot of talk this summer about if I could score goals a league up," said the ex Farnborough and Hampton and Richmond goal getter.
"I got 46 last year and I'm confident in my ability, I always have been.
"I scored on Tuesday against Wrexham and got two against Hartlepool so it's been a good start for me personally.
"I always try and play football with a smile on my face and when you perform like we did, it's great," he told BT Sports highlights show.
