Magpies Christmas Ticket Initiative To Combat Loneliness

By Sam Elliott

Maidenhead United are offering supporters not only a generous Christmas gift but the opportunity to bring people together to combat loneliness.

The Vanarama National League club hope every fan who attends their big Boxing Day match with Wealdstone will bring someone with them.

They’re so determined that nobody comes alone than the Magpies are giving a free ticket with every one purchased.

As part of their partnership with sponsors CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably, they have been backed to make it a busy day full of festive cheer down at York Road.

Maidenhead are committed to raising awareness about mental health challenges and believe this is the perfect opportunity to get someone out to the football on December 26.

“The festive season is a time for connection, togetherness, and joy – but for many, it can also be a time of loneliness and isolation,” the club said. “At Maidenhead United, we believe in the power of community and the importance of looking out for one another, especially during this time of year.

“These feelings can affect anyone, and they often go unnoticed. But even small acts of connection can make a huge difference.

“Loneliness can be an invisible burden, especially during the holidays. It affects mental health, well-being, and quality of life, but it’s something we can all take steps to combat.”

“Football is more than just a game – it’s a chance to come together, cheer as one, and create moments of joy that resonate far beyond the pitch.”

The offer also extends to supporters of Wealdstone and the north west London club are delighted by the idea and told their supporters about the warm invitation.

They said: “Stones fans are encouraged to take advantage of this offer by inviting someone along to not only share a day of football but also offering companionship and support when it's needed most.”
