Magical Moment For Magri Despite Three Lions Late Show

Sam Magri did himself, his club and the National League proud but Malta couldn’t quite catch England cold.

The Ebbsfleet United defender displayed plenty of strength and composure but he couldn’t stop Gareth Southgate’s team running out undeserved 4-0 winners.

It was a robust performance from the former Dover Athletic defender and his team mates in the first half, keeping a frustrated England in check.

The Three Lions, though, found the opening goal they needed in the opening stages of the second half. Dele Alli held onto the ball at the edge of the box and Tottenham colleague Harry Kane drifted unnoticed.

The Premier League star had the touch and the time to bury the chance and put a frustrating start to the season with Spurs to one side.

Magri served notice of his intention to not let the game get away from Malta for in the 55th minute he burst forward and drilled a powerful shot just wide of Joe Hart’s post.

Malta’s hopes were only finally ended in the 85th minute. Full back Ryan Bertrand from 30 yards took aim and made it 2-0 to England.

Danny Welbeck and Kane each scored in the final minute to give the scoreline a very flattering look.

Next for Magri and Malta it's a trip to Scotland.
