Mafuta Extends Gateshead Stay

By Steve Whitney

Gus Mafuta is hopeful of establishing himself as a first-team...

....regular at Gateshead having extended his contract with the club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old put pen-to-paper on another short-term deal, having clocked up fifteen appearances in all competitions so far.
The former Colchester United trainee has begun in five of Neil Aspin’s seven matches in charge so far, after starting just four times under previous manager Malcolm Crosby.

With his future settled, Mafuta accepts the time has come to push on if he is to prolong his stay at the International Stadium even further.

He said: “I’m really pleased to have my future sorted, it’s stability for me and a chance to show what I can do.

“I’ve been playing more, and the more you play, the better you are going to get. I feel I have improved, and if I can keep playing then I can only get better.

“The aim is to show that I am capable enough to stay here next season, as well.

“The manager and Lee Nogan have both been very good with me so far.

“The manager pulled me pretty much on day one and had a word in my ear about a couple of things, and that was very nice to hear.

“He has been giving me tips here and there, as has Lee. They’ve been giving me the chance to start and hopefully that can continue.”
