Macpherson Relishing Enfield's Baptism Of Fire

When Gavin Macpherson caught a first glance of the fixtures last week, you could forgive him for wincing a little.

First up? Only revitalised former EFL side Torquay United.

The toughest of welcome then last season's Isthmian Premier League play-off final winners, who are gearing up for their first-ever season at Step 2.

If you thought their daunting opening day task would deter excitement in the camp - think again.

"It's one of the toughest, if not the toughest, games we would expect this season," Macpherson told the Non-League Paper.

"[Torquay United] is a club that was recently in the Football League and they probably feel they belong at another level, especially from a supporters point of view.

"My overriding thought is one of excitement, but we are here to try and win football matches. We won't be frightened by the prospect and we'll do our homework to give ourselves a chance to get something out of the game."

Billy Leonard, Jack Smith, Nana Owusu and Joash Nembhard have all penned deals for the Towners with defender Alex Solomon also joining in the past fortnight.
