Macc's Askey Happy With Silkmen's Start To The New Season

John Askey says currently being eighth in the Vanarama National League table with a quarter of the season gone, means he's happy with the campaign so far.

Macclesfield Town made it three wins out of their last five matches in the league after defeating Torquay United, writes Tom Feaheny.

In a league where just four points separate the top eleven places, boss Askey says he would have taken their league position right now if offered it at the start of the season.

"We are two points off the top and in a good position. If at the start of the season you had said we would be in this position now I would have been really pleased,” he said to the club's website.

“If we can keep this kind of form going then we would be in the play-off positions so it is a decent start.”

Askey spoke to the club's website about their last win that saw them defeat the Gulls, he said despite their position as bottom of the league, he knew his side would be in for a tough game.

“They aren’t as poor of a team as the league suggests, they have got some decent players and I am sure they will climb the table. Whoever we play we know we are in for a game.”
