The well-travelled 41-year-old former Macclesfield defender re-joined the Silkmen as assistant to John Askey in the summer of 2013.
A year later, he briefly left the club due to budget constraints but returned soon after. However, the former Nigeria international has now been told again that the Silkmen can’t afford to keep him.
Askey has agreed a new rolling contract with controlling shareholder Amar Alkadhi.
Askey, currently on a family holiday, told the Macclesfield Express: “I’m waiting to speak to someone and see if we can try to do something but, from my point of view, we need to keep things as they are. I’d have thought that, from a financial point of view he’s well worth keeping on. Efe does attract people to the football club. I want to find a way for him to keep his job. At the moment I’m told we don’t have the money so I hope we can generate it and keep Efe”.
