Macc Boss Askey: We Rode Our Luck But We Stood Tall

John Askey, the delighted Macclesfield manager, accepts his team got the rub of the green at Wrexham.

But that didn't stop the Silkmen's manager admitting his delight after an impressive opening day success at the Racecourse.

"I'm the first to admit that we rode out luck a little at times," reacted Askey as they won 1-0 to get off to a great start.

"But when you come to places like this, you need to do that. This is a big club and it was another huge crowd.

"We weren't daunted by it and we stood up to the challenge.

"We can under real pressure in the second half, but we knew we were going to. It's all about the points at the end of the day and we've managed to come away from here with three.

"I'm really pleased. You want that first win on the board as soon as possible and I'm delighted we have it on the first day of the season.

"We want this win at Wrexham to breed confidence because the big games keep coming for us.

"It's Hartlepool next and that is going to be another tremendously difficult match."
