Maamria Comes In To Help Boro Following Wright Move

Following the shock of the sudden departure of manager Tommy Wright to league rivals Darlington FC, Nuneaton Town have placed assistant boss Jon Ashton in temporary charge of first-team affairs and have brought in the experienced Dino Maamria to help him.

Wright contacted Nuneaton chairman Lee Thorn, who is currently on a family holiday in Spain, to inform him that he was resigning from his position as manager.

This came as a major surprise to the club as he had committed his future to Boro earlier this week.

However, he decided to make the move north after Darlington agreed to pay his notice period and necessary compensation package.

Maamria has agreed to come in and assist Ashton for today’s game with Stockport County at the LDJ Solicitors Stadium.

The 46-year-old Tunisian is well-known in the National Leagues both as a player, coach and manager.

He spent three spells at Southport as a player and was manager of Northwich Victoria for a year, helping the club away from the Conference (National League) relegation zone in 2007/08.

The former Burnley, Doncaster Rovers and Leigh RMI striker then returned to old club Stevenage Borough as first-team coach but left in 2012 to follow boss Graham Westley to Preston North End.

He was back at Stevenage in March 2013, again alongside Westley, and served as assistant-manager.

In November 2015, Maamria returned to Southport, this time as manager, and helped them avoid the drop with a seven-game winning run.

However, in March 2016 he resigned due to personal reasons and the following October re-united with Westley at Newport County.
