LV BET | Vanarama National League North and South Season Preview

By Oliver Osborn

It’s been a rather long time since the sides went into battle for three points in the Vanarama National League North and South.

It was back in March when the curtain came down on football as we know it - so with both divisions re-starting, LV BET are taking a close look at the sides fancied to do well.

Of course, few would have predicted the winner in any of the three divisions last time out.

So what can we expect this time around?

York City may have been top when the final whistle was blown on the league season, but it was King’s Lynn who claimed the title.

Last year’s promotion semi-finalists are the favourites to gain promotion and win the championship this year and put that pain to good use.

After a fantastic regular season performance until the League was halted, York took 66 points from their 34 matches. Should they repeat this for the coming season they will be hard to catch.

Relegated from National League, AFC Fylde are next in the betting and last season didn’t go to plan at all after coming so close to promotion the season before.

The Coasters have had changes in the squad and will come into this season fresh to make a big challenge - even if some familiar faces have deperated.

Beaten promotion finalists Boston United are third favourites to win the title this year and go one better than last season. After going so close with smart investment in the squad they can mount a strong challenge for the title.

But what about the rest?

Other teams at the top of the betting include Spennymoor Town, Gateshead, Chester and Darlington.

These teams are double figures to win the title and finished last season with a top half position, so with more consistency, can challenge for the title to gain promotion to the National League

National League South

Dartford were a penalty shootout away from promotion to the National League and will have to react positively at the start of this season to get over that disappointment.

Getting points on the board early can help Steve King build a title challenge as they’re favourites to land the title.

Havant & Waterlooville were very consistent last term and can once again go well again this season. As second favourites they have the firepower to challenge for the title and likely to challenge.

Relegated Ebbsfleet United have the squad to compete in National League South and in a competitive League under the stewardship of German Dennis Kutrieb, they will have to come to terms in this division quickly.

Dorking Wanderers reached the play-offs last year and will be looking to do the same this year at a minimum, as they are next in the betting to gain the title this season.

Jamie O’Hara’s Billericay Town will once again be looking to mount a serious challenge and compete at the top end of the table. With new recruits to the squad, they could be the dark horses this season.
