Lock That Door: Blyth's Alun Could Kick Son Luke Out!

Alun Armstrong may be forced to cancel his Sunday family roast this afternoon.

The Blyth Spartans manager hasn’t got any last minute shopping for players to do.

Nor is the former Middlesbrough striker in such a bad mood from pre-season defeat to Gateshead that he won’t be great company.

The problem is who would be around the table - and after his son scored three goals against him on Saturday he has probably already had his fill!

Former Blyth striker Luke notched a fine hat-trick against his old man’s team on his return to Croft Park as the Heed Army won 3-1.

He told the club’s official website after the game: “Results are imperative but, and it sounds daft because I’m his Dad but if we take Luke out of that team and put his in our team – we win the game!

“Luke is lucky he’s going out with the Gateshead lads tonight because he wouldn’t have got in the house!” the Blyth boss laughed.

“Honestly, we joked about it last night at home. He said he’d score a hat-trick! His Mam said to me, Luke will score a hat-trick and he did.

“That’s the difference. You just look at him, he’s gone away from here and worked exceptionally hard at Middlesbrough – he’s developed – everyone can see the size of him now.

“I’m chuffed to bits for him and I think every Blyth fan is as well, it’s just a shame it came against us. I hope he has a good season and kicks on.”

Blyth begin the National League North season at Hereford on Saturday.
