Limbrick Ready To Make Managerial Debut

By David Richardson

The wait for the new Vanarama National League season is almost over and for Woking's Anthony Limbrick, it will have felt like a life time.

Appointed at the start of May, Aussie-born Limbrick has left no stone unturned during pre-season in what is his first job as manager.

The Cards moved swiftly for the 34-year-old after Garry Hill's contract wasn't renewed by the club.

Limbrick is a former academy coach at Southampton and West Ham United and was also briefly assistant coach of England's U17s.

It's been all change at Woking this summer, having added an extra day's training and signed 12 new players.

Four draws and a 3-0 defeat last Saturday to Swindon Town rounded off Limbrick's first pre-season with the club, and now he's ready for his competitive managerial debut at home to Gateshead on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to it. The pre-season games are great but it's nice to be competitive and have something riding on the matches," he told the National League.

"I know come Saturday we need three points and we'll make sure we're doing our best to get that. We want to get off to the best start. For me personally, it will be great."

The Cards face long trips to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday night and then Barrow the following Saturday.

"I think everyone will be nervous but more so excited," he added. "I think it's got to be a positive. You want to be playing at home against the best teams or even if it's away at Tranmere. Nerves are a good thing. It means you're ready, and ready to perform."
