Life After Tarpey Starts Well For Devonshire's Magpies

Beginning life without Dave Tarpey with a victory and two goals wasn’t the only thing Maidenhead United manager Alan Devonshire was delighted with on Saturday.

The Magpies said goodbye to Tarpey on transfer deadline day and he move to League Two team Barnet.

He scored 7 goals in August for the club and some feared that Maidenhead may struggle without him.

But that theory was washed away at Sutton United, the home of the league leaders. Watch Match Highlights Here.

Two second half goals, one from Ryan Upward and the other in time added on from Harold Odametey made their first match without the striking sensation one to remember.

But Devonshire was focused as well at the other end of the pitch.

He said: “We dominated the second half and got a fully deserved win so I’ve got to be happy with that.

“People talk about Tarpey and the goals he scored but I’m really pleased that we have managed to keep our first clean sheet of the season.

“There are a lot of good teams in this league as we’ve already seen but to come here and defend so well I’m delighted with.

“We took our chances and we were worthy of the three points, I thought,” added Devonshire.
