Lewer: Fantastic Mentality Helping Southport

Southport rose to third in the Vanarama National League North after beating Darlington 2-0 at the weekend.

The Sandgrounder got back to winning ways after beating a fellow side who are aiming to go up to the Vanarama National League, writes Tom Feaheny.

After the victory Alan Lewer told the club's website.

"We stuck together, we got what we deserved in the end, it is unbelievable the pros we have who have played in the Football League, they have that mentality we need."

Lewer was quick to praise keeper Mark Halstead who got his clean sheet along with other players in the squad as well.

"He was excellent he took crosses, his kicking was excellent, I thought there were good performances from others as well, the back three get that clean sheet as well."

Southport are still looking to add to their squad with the possiblilty of a new addition or two and Lewer says the area they need to improve on has been identified.

"We are still looking to add, get a striker or two in, we have got to be careful though, that we get the right people through the door."
