The Port gained back to back wins thanks to a last minute Gary Roberts strike, writes Tom Feaheny.
Alan Lewer who so far has a 100% winning record as boss of the Vanarama National League North side was pleased with the improvements his side made after falling behind early.
"The first 20 minutes I thought we were poor, we didn't start well, I got them in at half-time and I told the lads that we needed to get to grips with it and I thought we dominated the second half.
"We kept pressing and probing sometimes it doesn't work but it did on this occasion and that is something that was very pleasing."
Lewer was also delighted with the spirit his team had shown after gaining a maximum return so far.
"I can't ask for anymore really to get a maximum return I'm very happy with that, we just have to take it a game at a time going forward.
"We are a young side, we have had five games together, we are building we want that to continue."
Southport next face Leamington on Saturday and Lewer says he will be watching them during their game against Tamworth.
"I will have had a look at them, we need to keep digging in and grinding results out."
