Let's Meet January's National League South Award Winners!

By Sam Elliott

There’s little doubt about it, the panel faced one of their most challenging decisions when it came to the National League South awards for January.

Each of the four managers nominated had a compelling case - and so did the players put forward.

After days of debate, Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood came out on top.

Seeing off competition from Ebbsfleet’s Dennis Kutrieb, new Slough Town manager Scott Davies and also Oxford City’s Ross Jenkins, he takes the award after a flying start to 2023.

The new boys seem like they’ve been at this level for years, but last month they really came into their own.

The Rebels really started mixing it with the big boys and showing their staying power, they secured big wins, claimed four clean sheets and cemented their play-off place.

Seeing off Welling United, Eastbourne, Dartford and Dover Athletic they conceded only twice in their five games and ended the month just a point off third spot

Those in the know believe Hinshelwood has a future as a full-time manager but he’s got eyes on one prize for the next three months.

Josh Parker could have let a difficult summer drag him down.

Trialling at EFL clubs, he didn’t get the deal he wanted - but the Oxford City striker refused to sulk.

Those clubs’ loss was Jenkins’ gain and his forward scored five times in January as the club ended the month undefeated.

They also ended it in the play-offs but with without Parker’s goals Oxford would be six points lighter, leaving them outside of the top seven. His team now haven’t lost since mid-November,

When he’s not scoring goals, he is making them. He provided the cross for Zac McEachran’s winner against Concord Rangers.

Even with months to go, Parker is having his best season in front of goal.

Congratulations to our two fantastic winners!
