The Racecourse boss grilled his players before Saturday’s trip to Eastleigh.
The team told him everything he needed to hear as they won 3-1 to hold on to the early National League leadership.
He says he saw some of their best football yet in Hampshire.
“I asked my players before the game some question and to see if they could go out there and answer a few and they certainly did that,” Ricketts said.
“Make no mistake Eastleigh are a good side. They have players who used to play in the Championship so we knew it was going to be a big challenge.
“But they responded and I am absolutely delighted with the result.
“The first 20 minutes was the best have played so far. We were excellent and I was so pleased with what I saw.”
He added: “We have goals coming from all directions at the moment and that’s a really good sign.
“We were really controlled and really disciplined and the start we have made to the new season is really encouraging.”
Wrexham’s next fixture is a home game against Bromley next Saturday.
