Klukowski Becomes a Minsterman

Vanarama National League newcomers York City have completed the signing of former Newport County AFC midfielder Yan Klukowski.

The 29-year-old put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal at Bootham Crescent earlier and becomes Jackie McNamara’s first signing of the week.

Klukowski began his career with local club Chippenham Town before moving to Bath City and making the breakthrough at the age of 18, appearing fourteen times for the Romans.

In 2005, however, he made the switch to the United States after signing a scholarship with Central Connecticut State University.

In his time with CCSU, the 6`1” midfielder was named North East Conference Rookie of the Year before he also went on to feature for Ottawa Fury and Cape Cod Crusaders in the USL Premier Development League.

It was in 2009 when Klukowski turned professional after he joined USL Second Division outfit Western Mass Pioneers, however following the conclusion of the season he return to England in an attempt to find a professional club.

Despite impressing on trial with League sides Carlisle United and Swindon Town, the midfielder spent the next few months featuring for old club Chippenham and then Larkhall Athletic, where he scored six times in eight appearances.

In the summer of 2010, Klukowski earned a deal with National League outfit Forest Green Rovers and over the course of the next four seasons received rave reviews as he featured 161 times for Rovers, netting 49 league goals.

At the end of his contract at The New Lawn, Newport County came calling for Klukowski's services and he went on to become a regular part of the team over the next two campaigns, scoring eight times in seventy-three appearances.
