Kinnear Proud Of His Table Toppers Dover

By David Richardson

Dover Athletic are the latest team to sit top of the Vanarama National League and manager Chris Kinnear is proud of his players.

The Whites won 2-0 at Aldershot Town yesterday to become the surprise new leaders of the division.

Despite having to completely rebuild his squad this summer, losing 40-goal striker Ricky Miller in the process, Kinnear has pulled more rabbits out of the hat.

His side have taken 17 points from their opening nine games, losing twice, and made it back-to-back wins against the Shots.

"It's not easy against Aldershot, they're a very good side, great club and have a great manager," he said. "I think we deserved it. It just shows you the characters of these boys, they really have to dig in.

"There's still a long way to go yet, we must get too carried away but it's enjoyable to be top, I'd rather be at that end than the other. You don't win anything in September.

"Three games ago there were a few people sulking and doomsters but, again, now we can't get carried away, we just have to keep going.

"These players are learning all the time, you've got to be proud of these players, they never know when to give in and they'll continue to do that."
