Keeper Extends Stay at The New Lawn

Jonny Maxted has extended his stay with Vanarama National League leaders....

...Forest Green Rovers until the summer of 2017, after the young goalkeeper triggered a clause in his contract.

The former Doncaster Rovers man, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Monday, has made eighteen appearances in a Forest Green jersey since joining the club from Hartlepool United in the summer.

Originally brought in to cover for injuries in the club’s opening pre-season clash with Cardiff City, his excellent performance against the Bluebirds caught the attention of the Rovers` supporters, and management, and he has cemented himself in the starting XI this season.

Maxted has played a crucial part in helping Rovers to the top of the table, and in the process has kept seven clean sheets – including a run of four consecutive shut outs at the start of the campaign.

Commenting on his contract extension, Maxted said: “I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present to be honest.

“Now I’m playing games I just want to keep doing what I’m doing by helping the team out and trying to get more clean sheets under my belt.

“I only came in as second choice and it was unfortunate with Steve Arnold being injured, but the gaffer has had the faith in me to put me in there.

“That has helped me with my confidence and I’ve just pushed on.”

Maxted began his career at Doncaster Rovers, where at just 16 he forced himself into the first-team squad at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Along with loan spells at Goole AFC and Gainsborough Trinity, he gained further experience as part of the squad at Hartlepool in League Two last season, before making the move to The New Lawn officially in July.
