The Bees have started the new Vanarama National League season in fantastic form, sitting top of the table with six wins from their eight matches.
In the face of strong competition, they kept their noses in front on Saturday as they made light work of Altrincham. It was the latest three-point haul, adding to success against Hartlepool, Bromley, Woking, Ebbsfleet United and Boreham Wood.
Brennan worked day and night in the close season to ensure his team could go one step further after falling at the play-off Eliminator hurdle back in May.
Proud of their progress, the Irishman isn’t getting caught up in title talk.
But he just wants his players to keep setting the standard to build on their excellent opening, helped in no small part by some home comforts.
Speaking after a fourth win from four at the Hive, he said: “We’ve been excellent here, that’s a good sign - you always want to win football matches in front of your home crowd and that’s four in a row now.
“We’ve raised the bar so far this season. We’re asking the players to do things that maybe we didn’t ask them to do last season and they’re responding to that.
“We have been able to adapt and it’s showing in our results. I can’t ask for any more, we’ve all enjoyed the start to the season that’s for sure. But we need to keep winning when we’re playing well.”
So good were they that Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson called the defeat a “reality check” for his players.
Brennan went on: “It was a relentless performance and I thought we were outstanding. We showed the pace we know we’ve got and we kept our shape at important times. It was comprehensive.”
Next for Barnet is a trip to Rochdale before back-to-back home games against Aldershot Town and FC Halifax.
