Keates Is Content As Wrexham Recover From 'Rock Bottom'

Dean Keates says Wrexham’s first away win of the season couldn’t have been timed any better.

The Dragons produced a performance when it mattered after winning 2-0 at Eastleigh on Tuesday night.

After their last away trip, Saturday’s defeat at Ebbsfleet, the team slipped to the bottom of the table.

Keates told the club’s video player just how happy he was with the night’s work.

“We needed a lift as we hit rock bottom,” he explained. “We had to pick ourselves up - we had to be like a bull.

“We kept a clean sheet and we won a long way from home - it was our first away win in a long, long time.

“All we can do is keep chipping away. The club shouldn’t be where it is but we have to deal with that and react.

“We got what we deserved, the lads are flat out on their feet.”

He added: “We had a strong back five and we defended for our lives. We changed the system and it worked.

“Over the last few games we haven’t been ruthless enough but we took our chances and in the end we were good value for it.

“It’s a step forward in the right direction, but it’s only a step.”
