The Posh have a rich history in taking a chance talented non-League players in recent years.
This summer they have signed Dover Athletic's Ricky Miller and Stockport County winger Danny Lloyd.
Not they have moved for 17-year-old Kanu after a deal was concluded between the Shots as United director of football Barry Fry.
The clubs have agreed on a price for the teenager, with both clubs opting not to disclose his value.
But it's a blow to Gary Waddock who had hoped to use the attacker in the National League this season.
"Aldershot Town forward Idris Kanu has joined Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee," confirmed the club.
"The 17 year-old, who joined The Shots from West Ham United last summer, made 32 appearances in 2016-17 and scored four goals.
"We thank Idris for his efforts and wish him well for the future," they said on their website tonight.
