There’s a big game on the horizon at Marsh Lane this weekend in the Vanarama National League South as Oxford - who are second from bottom - welcome Concord Rangers.
It seems like a classic six pointer and Jones is desperate to start moving up the table with the team winless since the middle of August.
The boss thinks it’s high time they put that right but is tired of hearing feedback from rivals that the team aren’t as bad as perhaps things seem.
“There have been a lot of positives this year, but we haven’t quite got the results that we wanted,” said the manager, who called last weekend’s defeat to Hemel Hempstead one of their worst performances of the season,
“But we’ve received a lot of credit from opposition managers from the way we play, and a lot of people can’t quite understand why we are down there. But we’ve got to produce on the pitch when it matters.
“Actions speak louder than words,” Jones told the club’s website. “We’ve got to keep going to try and improve this poor situation we are in in the league and around. I think we are capable of doing that, so I’d ask everyone to keep supporting us and stick together and have the belief that we will turn things around.”
A heart-to-heart could help, and Oxford City’s squad go into the big game at the bottom having had an open conversation about current issues.
“We’ve had a chat as a group and we were not happy with our performance,” he adds. “It wasn’t good timing for us either with our position in the table, we needed more than we got last Saturday.
“But I think we’ve got an honest dressing room, the lads know the position we are in, we need to stick together, we need to get harder and smarter to improve our position. I think we are capable of that.”
