Johnson: Seven Teams Or More Chasing The Title

Torquay United manager Gary Johnson warned seven others clubs are gunning for their title.

The top of the table Gulls defeated second place Welling United 3-1 on Saturday in front of nearly 2,500 fans.

They are now two points clear in the National League South but Johnson warns they’ve got company at the summit.

“It’s a really good result for us but it was the football club which I think looked really good,” the manager explained on the club’s video service.

“The numbers inside were fantastic, the atmosphere was very good and the workrate and passion the boys played with shows that. It was a fight and a battle.

“These are the six pointers. There are six or seven teams, maybe more than that, who think they can knock us off top spot. Nobody wants the lottery of the play-offs.

“We can’t worry about what other sides do, we’ve just got to try and stay there. Every game we win will put us a little further away from most.”

He added: “We had to game-manage because of the conditions and I think we maybe did that a little bit better than the opposition.

“We’re delighted. Every player came off covered in mud having put in a big performance.”
