Johnson: New Gulls Signings Close And We're Aiming High!

Gary Johnson has asked for patience as he looks to build a squad capable of challenging at the top end of the table next season.

The Gulls finished as runaway leaders last month and now their boss had provided an update on their summer business, hinting that new signings are close.

"People must not get too impatient," he told Devon Live. "But because we had done a fair bit of work before the end of the season, we are pretty close on a couple we are chasing.

"We are not having to do a major overhaul, because I am happy with the squad so far, but obviously eleven is not going to be enough.

"We have to be better and stronger next season, and we are trying to make sure we do that."

Following their title parade, Johnson had made his feelings clear about where his side want to be.

"I am not going for consolidation, I want to give it a go in the National League next year," he said last month.

"This club showed today that it is a Football League club and that will be the aim next season."
