Johnson "keeping feet on the ground" after eight-goal Salford win

It's "exciting times" at Salford City reckons joint boss Anthony Johnson, and after last night's 8-0 win things are already looking good ahead of the new season.

But Johnson was also keen to express that they couldn't afford to get carried away with the club's progress, having moved to a full-time setup this summer in search of promotion from the Vanarama National League North.

The Ammies began their pre-season schedule with a thumping victory over Hallmark Security League First Division side Atherton Laburnum Rovers, the perfect start.

"The lads have been waiting a long time, especially with the new signings coming in," Johnson told the club's website. "They've wanted to get out on the pitch properly, we've been training now for a week and a half.

"It was good to come up against proper opposition, who wanted to get something out of the game.

"What we asked of the lads before the game was that the things we've worked on in training, we wanted to see. At times, when we watch the game back, it might have looked messy but we asked certain players to do certain things and they did that.

"You've got to keep your feet on the ground. It's exciting times at the football club with the ground, the type of players we've brought in and the ambition we've got.

"It's easy to get carried away."
