A 2-0 loss at the weekend to Dover Athletic, saw the side fall to defeat for the first time in seven matches, though results elsewhere went their way, writes Tom Feaheny.
This included Maidstone picking up a win against Sutton United with Stuart Lewis getting the winner.
The Silkmen now travel back to Maidstone after their game was called off just over a fortnight ago when home players were stuck on the M25 following a serious collision.
Kick-off was initially delayed, but the game was postponed shortly after 19:45.
Speaking after the loss to Dover Athletic, the Silkmen boss knows what a win could do for his side.
"It is another journey for us, but we know the importance of it, to go five points clear this stage would mean a lot," Askey said.
"I keep saying it but we do have to take it a game at a time, we can't look too far ahead as we know that is when standards can slip."
Macclesfield Town are now going up against a side who in recent weeks have found form with victories at home against Torquay United and also that win facing Sutton United.
