Last year’s National League South play-off winners have found life difficult during their first Step 1 season, despite a strong start following promotion.
This weekend, City look to put on a show for the TNT Sports cameras when they welcome play-off hunters FC Halifax Town. They say Sunday’s match is another chance to showcase the club to the nation and bring some cheer to their fans.
Jenkins says the chips aren’t down even though they sit rooted to the bottom of the table, and that was demonstrated by Tuesday’s match at Chesterfield.
They gave the leaders a great game before eventually going down 2-0 and the manager wants more of the same in the final few weeks.
"It has been really really hard to criticise the players because they have put in an absolute shift,” he said after the midweek match.
"Big credit to the players for leaving work, coming up here, I haven’t seen them since the last game, no training in-between, and they have come in and applied themselves brilliantly. We had a lot of chances and we didn’t take them.On another day we score four or five.”
He added: "Visually in the table there is a massive gap but today there didn’t look like a massive gap. Others might say something different.
“They are a good team, they create overloads, the centre-forward movement up front is very clever, they have got some really good players, but we have created more than enough chances to put at least three goals away and not many teams do that here. We need to take the positives from it.”
