Jeffrey Joins The U's As Sutton Secure Speedy Striker

Former Arsenal trainee Anthony Jeffrey, who played in Tuesday’s friendly at Dartford, has joined Sutton United from Forest Green Rovers after a season-long loan at Boreham Wood.

Jeffrey joined Forest Green in February 2016 from Wood on an eighteen-month contract.

Jeffrey initially joined Boreham Wood on loan from National League South side Concord Rangers in October 2015, before signing a short-term deal in December.

He moved to Forest Green for an undisclosed fee but made only a handful of appearances and spent two periods back at Meadow Park on loan last season.

Manager Paul Doswell was delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old Jeffrey on a one-year contract: “Anthony was the one we were waiting for and I’m delighted he’s agreed to sign. There was significant interest from League Two and National League clubs but we’ve sold him the vision of the club and explained that a season such as Roarie Deacon and Max Biamou had can help him achieve his ambitions.

“He has been training with the group since the start of pre-season and played against Dartford and has fitted in really well. He brings the searing pace that we wanted and will also be a goal threat. With Jeffrey Monokana, Kieran Cadogen and Moses Emannuel we have a nice variety of wide players who all offer a different threat.”

Jeffrey was also delighted to sign: “The gaffer has been very persistent since the end of last season and it’s nice to finally commit to the club. He’s passionate about Sutton and after being here since July 1st and seeing the whole set up and a great group of players it became an easy decision to make.

“I had many offers but this feels right on all levels and I can’t wait to get going.”

In other news, Doswell is potentially looking at a loan goalkeeper after Ross Worner injured his knee whilst out running on Sunday evening.
