Jansen Praises Professional Chorley Display

Chorley boss Matt Jansen says his side showed the right attitude after defeating Ashton Athletic 1-0 in the FA Cup.

It may have taken a late goal to help Chorley gain victory but they were able to put in a good display and reach the fourth qualifying round in the process, writes Tom Feaheny.

The match was decided by a late Nick Haughton strike with just seven minutes left.

"It was always going to be that potential banana skin, it was difficult to break them down, it was all about finding the gaps, they caused us some problems in the first-half," Jansen said to the club's website.

"The second-half was better from us, we were patient, we rushed a few things, we weren't composed enough at times but we improved."

Jansen was also quick to praise the match winner Haughton for his performance during the game.

"He was a thorn in their side, he showed great feet and balance, he could have got two or three goals really."

Chorley are in the hat for the next round with Jansen saying progression to the first round would be a real achievement.

"The aim is now to get into the first round proper, it would mean a lot to everyone at the club, as we haven't been able to do do that in a while."
