It's The National League Team Of Good Friday

By Sam Elliott

For those games which avoided the Mother Nature’s wrath, there was plenty to talk about.

More last minute winners for the team sitting top and valiant results for those chasing salvation at the bottom.

Weather interrupted perhaps, but it was a key day in the National League - as they all will be from here on in.

Here’s what we have come up with as we attempt to honour those players who have performed at their peak every Saturday.

Our progress is simple - we latch on to the view of manager, club officials and journalists all over the country as we select our 16 stand out stars and cobble them together for the Team of the Weekend. We're going 4-5-1 this time.

Here’s what we’ve come up with. Agree? Disagree? Join the debate on twitter now @TheNationalLge

Goalkeeper: James Montgomery (Gateshead)
Another penalty save for the Gateshead goalkeeper - his third piece of spot kick salvation preserved a draw for the Heed against Dagenham.

Defender: Jamie Reckord (Solihull Moors)
Life his club’s form, he has just been getting better and better. The second time in three the Moors’ full-back has been our select side.

Defender: Craig Robson (Dagenham & R)
Commanding and cool, Robson and his Daggers defenders did what few do - keep a clean sheet at Gateshead’s International Stadium.

Defender: Moussa Diarra (Barrow)
A third clean sheet in four matches for Barrow, and big Mo Diarra was again head and shoulders above the rest. Not that his team-mates weren’t excellent at Boreham Wood.

Defender: Mitch Hancox (Macclesfield)
Some killer crosses and full-blooded challenges in the rain, it was a good day for Macclesfield in the end at Woking.

Midfielder: Adam Mekki (Bromley)
Held things together against Wrexham and drove the team forward as Bromley played well with ten men for the whole of the second half.

Midfielder: Danny Whitehead (Macclesfield)
The winning goal - just - in the fourth minute of time added on. They keep getting these vital goals at the death and Whitehead just had to be the man.

Midfielder: James Hardy (AFC Fylde)
A goal and an impressive display from Hardy as Fylde eventually eased to victory over FC Halifax Town.

Midfielder: Jobi McAnuff (Leyton Orient)
Two goals for Orient at Guiseley - the veteran has now scored in each of the past 17 seasons. Captain.

Attacking Midfielder: Michael Woods (Hartlepool)
Two goals capped a great day for the Pools player - his club can sense survival now thanks to this fantastic run of form.

Striker: Elliott Romaine (Torquay United)

The Gulls have hope and they also have a striker bang in form. Romaine got one and helped create another as Torquay won 2-0 at Chester.

Substitutes:

Lewis Ward (Aldershot)

Donovan Makoma (Barrow)

Rhys Healey (Torquay United)

Johnny Smith (AFC Fylde)

David Mooney (Leyton Orient)
