Defender Ritchie Sutton and wide man Connor Jennings both hit a pair of goals as in-form Rovers brushed aside AFC Fylde 4-1.
The romp was win number four in a row and Tranmere at last have a top seven place following their rocky first third of the season.
Mellon was delighted by what he saw from his players - and in particular their unlikely heroes.
“We spoke before the start of the season as a group about how important it is that it’s not just the strikers scoring our goals,” he explained.
“It’s got to be an all-round effort so that was very pleasing. Ritchie in particular took his goals very well.
“Every successful side finds goals from all positions. We’re starting to spread them around now and it’s a positive sign.”
Mellon said maybe the full story wasn’t told in the Boxing Day scoreline with the visitors stronger than it looked to anyone not at Prenton Park.
“Fylde, and credit to them, really made us work for that - they never waved the white flag,” said the former Rovers player.
“We had to be quite gritty in stages of the game but we’ll take another good three points, it’s a pleasing result for sure.
“We need the same level of performance and may need to be even better against Guiseley here on Saturday.”
